Georgian hiking calendar

Having lived in Georgia for few years now and seeing how so many visitors have issues picking a good time or right place for hiking I thought I could help. Here is the calendar for hikers in Georgia.

January
Everyone is in the mountains, skitouring in Svaneti or Gudauri. Without skis you can drink wine in Tbilisi. Drinking wine WITH skis is considered a bit weird. At least in Tbilisi.

February
Everyone is still in the mountains, skitouring, or in Tbilisi, transitioning to chacha.
In Trekking in Caucasus forum first dude comes to ask if he can go to Tusheti or do Mestia-Ushguli. Resulting ‘sigh’ among oldtimers can be heard in most of Eurasian continent and causes major wind damage in wide areas.

March
Most of the people are fed up with skitouring but there’s not much else to do anyway.
Those who still haven’t got a liver failure, can try going to Vashlovani, David Gareja or anyplace in between in South Kakheti. Smart people use 4×4 for that. Stupid ones like me sometimes go on foot. Vashlovani dogs love extra meat.
If the winter has been mild some lower (under 1000m) places in South Kartli are probably snow-free so daytrip to Birtvisi, Tsalka or even Manglisi could work.
3824th dude asking in Trekking in Caucasus if he can do now Mestia-Ushguli is found mysteriously strangled in his bed. Jozef denies everything.

April
Snow is getting a bit shitty for skitouring but there is still not much else to do.
The best time for Vashlovani, Kartli is also getting better but snowline is most probably below 2000 still and wet spring snow does not give a damn about your badass snowshoes. Postholing season.
More liver failures.

May
Guys who went to do Mestia-Ushguli in April are now melting out.
Snow really likes to come down the slope all by itself now so skitouring gets increasingly scary.
Snowline actually gets above 2000 and Borjomi-Kharagauli trails should be ok, as well as all Kartli, Imereti and pretty big parts of Samtskhe-Javakheti (except Abuli-Samsari range).
Mid-May first Tush sheepflocks cross the Abano pass to Tusheti. Trekking in Caucasus forum starts to monitor the health of Alvani-Omalo road in real time.
In Vashlovani Levantine vipers and scorps come out, temperatures exceed 40 and South Kakheti beyond David Gareja becomes an area only for very specific hiking tastes.

June
Guys who went to do Mestia-Ushguli in March are melting out.
Avalanche danger is decreasing but rockfalls are still part of the fun and on higher passes and ridges snow could be plenty.
Hiking season starts and first flocks of tourists go to Tusheti. TiC oldtimers are one by one coming out of rehab.

July and August
Nothing much to say. Tourist season. Everything is open, enjoy.

September
Kids go to school. Mountains become visible beyond the crowd again. Fruits are ripe. Best time for most places.

October
Tush leave Tusheti. Vipers go to sleep in Vashlovani. In the end of the month higher passes close.
Time to stock up on wine and chacha.

November
The most pointless month of the year. Too cold to hike, too little snow to ski. Poor liver.

December
Ski season starts. Whole Tbilisi moves to Gudauri.
